The despised hospital gown with its drafty backside may soon be ancient history.
Researchers at Henry Ford Health System have come up with a snugger alternative: a wrap-around robe.
The new patient gown, which closes in the back and front, is being rolled out at Henry Ford Hospital. Made of a thicker fabric, the gown closes with snaps instead of ties. It also provides easy access for intravenous lines and other medical equipment.
The gown was developed over more than a year and a half by the institute with design help from three students from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. The gown is the first product for which the Institute has requested a patent.
