A groundbreaking for the long-anticipated Powerhouse Science Center on the Sacramento riverfront is a few months away, but expected to bring about $14.5 million in outside annual consumer spending after it opens.
According to an economic impact analysis released this week, the museum will also create 535 construction jobs when work begins as soon as late July or August.
The analysis estimates the museum will attract 320,000 visitors a year and create $10.1 million of new dollars in the local economy annually. The science center itself will eventually have as many as 55 jobs on site at a former Pacific Gas & Electric Co. powerhouse on Jibboom Street.
