Oracle’s Stunning Comeback at America’s Cup

Oracle Team USA for the win!

In what has been hailed as the biggest comeback in America’s Cup history, the team pulled through to beat Emirates Team New Zealand in today’s deciding race.

Oracle wasn’t the fan favorite for most of the series, lagging behind with an 8-1 record. Things turned around courtesy of determined skipper Jimmy Spithill, who secured the win in eight consecutive races to bring Oracle Team USA to the forefront. The final score was 9-8.

This is the third time in the series’ history that the winner has been decided by a tiebreaker race; it happened once in 1920, and again in 1983. In addition to the famous risk associated with America’s Cup, the price tag required to participate is notoriously high; Larry Ellis, the owner of Oracle Team USA’s boat, reportedly spent $100 million on the series.
