Today is Giving Tuesday– the day when we are challenged to give and share our time and resources with our local community and worldwide causes. The holidays are a great time to give to non-profit organizations that not only pull at our heartstrings, but are visionaries in our minds as well.
Here at Wheel Media, one of our favorite local charities is Juma Ventures. Juma Ventures is a Bay Area nonprofit that works to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring that young people complete a four-year college degree. Back in 1993, they were the first nonprofit to ever open and operate a commercial franchise- a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream shop that employed local homeless youth. This innovative integration of services and business has really taken off, and the organization is now working in six cities.
One of the easiest ways to donate to Juma Ventures is to make a purchase using GoodShop. GoodShop has partnered with large and small retailers including Target, Amazon, Best Buy, and companies like Priceline.com and Living Social to allow shopping rewards to be donated to the charity of buyers’ choosing. The GoodShop website lets you choose your cause from an extensive list of nonprofits operating in various sectors. To date, GoodShop has raised over $11 Million for causes, and this Giving Tuesday is another great opportunity to do more good with your purchases.
There are countless ways to give back to your community today and every day. Whether you are able to give your time and expertise to local youth or causes, or simply designate a donation to Juma Ventures on your GoodShop account, you truly can make an impact on this Giving Tuesday.
