Beginning this summer, Sacramento County property owners can work with the county to borrow money for energy upgrades and other environmental improvements, then pay it back through property taxes.
By establishing a Property Assessed Clean Energy financing district in partnership with
Ygrene, a third-party company specializing in such programs, the county hopes to both boost cleaner energy and economic development.
According to a county press release, for every $10 million invested in upgrades, there’ll be a benefit of 150 jobs and $25 million in economic stimulus. Ygrene is obligated to fund at least $5.5 million worth of projects every 12 months.
Property values are also expected to increase for properties that see upgrades, according to the county.
